Mayor's May Day statement on immigration
SEATTLE - Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels today issued this statement on immigration reform:
"Today, Seattle has more than 100,000 people born in another country. We are a city of immigrants. Much of Seattle's history was written by Chinese railroad workers, Filipino fishermen, Italian business owners, Latino farm workers, Japanese market gardeners and other communities. I support comprehensive national immigration reform because meeting our highest aspirations and the realities of the 21st century economy demand it. Now more than ever, we need a fair path toward legalization and citizenship for immigrant workers and their families."
