Mayor Nickels Invites Youth to Make a Difference
Deadline to apply for Mayors Youth Council is Oct. 10

SEATTLE Mayor Greg Nickels is urging Seattle's young people to become involved in city government by joining the 2008-09 Mayors Youth Council. Young people ages 15 to 19 can apply now to become a member; the deadline to apply for the Mayors Youth Council is Oct. 10.

We need fresh ideas and perspectives in city government, said Nickels. I had some great opportunities to find my civic passion when I was young. Members of my Youth Council will engage, impact and connect with city leaders and their community about important issues plus, they'll get great leadership experience.

The Mayors Youth Council will have 20 members representing all geographic areas of the city. In addition to meeting two to three times monthly, members will conduct outreach, collect input from youth throughout Seattle and organize the eighth Annual

Mayors Youth Town Hall in the spring of 2009.

To apply to become a member of the Mayors Youth Council, call 206-510-3243, visit the mayors Web site at http://www.seattle.gov/mayor/issues/myc/ or ask your schools Career Center Specialist or Counselor. The application deadline is 5 p.m. on Oct. 10.
