Message to All City Employees Sound Shake
To All City Employees:
The Seattle Office of Emergency Management will be sponsoring a disaster exercise in the new City Emergency Operations Center all day on Wednesday, March 5th called Sound Shake 2008. The exercise will focus on the response to a catastrophic earthquake and is based on seismic research conducted in this area a few years ago.
This exercise should serve to remind all of us to be prepared for disaster. Have a minimum of three days supplies, medicines and other essential items for you and your family. Make sure you have developed a family disaster plan. Carry a disaster kit in your car. Be ready.
The ability of our city to effectively respond to a disaster depends directly on the level of preparedness of each employee. A short family preparedness video is available online for your viewing. This video is located at www.seattle.gov/emergency. Also, disaster kits are available for city employees to purchase at: http://www.emprep.com/. For more information please contact Linda Holten, Seattle Office of Emergency Management, at 233-7123.
I encourage all of you to review your preparations and take the steps necessary to provide for you and your family in an emergency.
Sincerely,
Greg Nickels
Mayor of Seattle
