Foster Care Month

05/02/06

Dear Friends:

May is Foster Care Month. Foster Care Month is a time to express appreciation to all those working on behalf of children and thank them for their commitment and their focus on continually putting children first.

The safety, well-being and care of vulnerable children are of vital interest to the people of Seattle. Children enter the foster care system through no fault of their own, often because of abuse or neglect, and this month will shine a spotlight on the needs of our most vulnerable children.

Unfortunately, too often Washington State’s foster children are not adequately provided for and this month gives us an opportunity to reflect on how best to meet their needs.

I encourage you to join me in honoring relatives and Seattle’s foster parents for their day-to-day strength and dedication to the children in their care.

Sincerely,

GREG NICKELS
Mayor
