"Since 1995 money to maintain our roads and bridges has been in rapid decline. We’ve lost about 66 percent of our dedicated funding and we’re falling behind on basic street and bridge repair. If we don’t fill the gap, our streets will decay. And when the streets fail, the fabric of our neighborhoods is put at risk."
        - Mayor Greg Nickels

Committee to Save Big Ugly ThingsMayor Names “Dirty Dozen” Mean Streets

In June, the mayor asked people to nominate their choice for the worst transportation headaches in the city. More than 700 people submitted their pick of streets, sidewalks, bike trails and signals they wanted to see repaired.

Deferred Maintenance Costs

Seattle faces a $300 million paving backlog. Under Mayor Greg Nickels' Bridging the Gap proposal, this backlog will be eliminated by 2026 with an annual investment of roughly $24 million. Reducing the annual investment means we can't eliminate the backlog. Check out this graph for more details.
