Translation and Interpretation Policy

Recognizing the need for a comprehensive strategy to better serve Seattle residents with limited English proficiency, Mayor Greg Nickels developed a far-reaching translation and interpretation policy. On Jan. 31, 2007, the Mayor signed an Executive Order directing City departments to adopt this new policy. In addition, the Mayor strengthened the City's capacity to execute the new policy in several ways, such as enhancing the Employee Language Bank and increasing the number of blanket contractors available to provide translation and interpretation services. The links below provide additional details.
