South Lake Union offers a unique and exciting opportunity to create a healthy and environmentally sustainable urban neighborhood
by implementing innovative approaches that will use natural resources more efficiently, reduce air and water pollution, create a more
bike and pedestrian-friendly urban environment, and create open space.
The Mayor's Strategy:
Promote the design and construction of "green buildings" that are healthier for people and the environment, and save money
Protect and improve Lake Union water quality through innovative approaches to street design and rainwater management
Improve air quality by making it save and easy to get to, from, and around South Lake Union by public transit, bike, or walking
Provide clean, reliable, and affordable energy and drinking water, and encourage the efficient use of those resources through aggressive conservation programs and innovative distribution systems
Create lots of "green space" and easy-to-access places for relaxation, reflection, and recreation

South Lake Union is
an excellent location for new development. We
want job creation focused into Seattle's core,
not in suburban sprawl. Supported by
neighborhood improvements like the South Lake
Union Park and the streetcar, the community can
grow jobs gracefully and help the region grow
intelligently and sustainably.
