89th Clean & Green Seattle - West Seattle
On Saturday, September 13, 2008, Mayor Greg Nickels led more than two hundred-sixty (260) volunteers and City workers as they removed weeds and invasive plants from the Gateway greenbelt. Volunteers also picked up litter from the same area.
Department of Neighborhood’s Kimberlee Archie presented long-time community leader Earl Cruzen with a Mayor’s Proclamation proclaiming September 13, 2008 as “Earl Cruzen Day.” The Fairmount Community Association under direction of its V.P. Nancy Driver organized the event. Community partners included Fairmount Community Association, Junction Neighborhood Organization (JuNO), Morgan Junction Association, Fauntleroy Community Association, Admiral Neighborhood Association, Alki Community Council, West Seattle Rotary, West Seattle YMCA, West Seattle Garden Tour, Democrats Work, 34th District Democrats and Mars Hill Church and the West Seattle Christian Church. More than 1,000 pounds of litter was picked up. More than 15.25 tons of green debris was removed!
Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle Parks and Recreation, the Department of Corrections and Seattle Public Utilities also assisted in the effort. Seattle Channel covered the event. Anthony Harris took digital photographs.
