Report on Clean Seattle Initiative

93rd Clean & Green Seattle - University District

University District Neighborhood Farmers Market- On Saturday, December 6, 2008, Mayor Greg Nickels and more than two-hundred (200) community people made holiday swags from tree boughs. The spruce, fir, red-cedar, holly and white cedar tree boughs came from locations around Seattle, as well as, the Cedar River Watershed. Leaders from the Greater University Chamber of Commerce and Farmers Market co-sponsored the event. The holiday swags were given to shoppers and University District businesses. Volunteers picked up litter along University and Brooklyn Avenues. More than 250 pounds of litter and debris were removed as a result of the clean-up.

The Department of Neighborhoods, Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle Parks and Recreation, the Department of Corrections, King County DAJD and Seattle Public Utilities also assisted in the effort. Anthony Harris took digital photographs.
