Report on Clean Seattle Initiative
Cleanup: Lake City Community
Date of Cleanup: March 17, 2007
On Saturday, March 17, 2007, Mayor Greg Nickels led
more seventy-five volunteers as they cleaned the Lake City community.
Participants from University Prep, Lake City Chamber of Commerce, Greater
Lake City Community Council, Lake City Farmers Market, Summit K-12 School,
Nathan Hale High School, North Helpline Food Bank & Emergency Services,
and North Seattle Family Center swept, picked up litter and planted trees
and native plants.
Mayor Nickels created the Clean & Green program shortly after taking
office in 2002. The Department of Neighborhoods, Seattle Parks and Recreation,
Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle Police Department, Seattle City
Light, the Department of Corrections (clearing blackberry bushes and picking
up litter bags), King County Juvenile work teams and Seattle Public Utilities
also assisted in the effort.

Cleanup Activities:

Collected (20) bags of litter (or approx. 400 lbs)

damaged, weathered or missing traffic signs replaced
- 1 tons of
Asphalt applied
- 3 curb miles swept
- 40 cubic yards of debris swept
- 455 feet of faded curb repainted
- Maintainance performed on 20 streetlights
- Planted 4 trees & 6 flats of groundcover
- Spread 3 yards of bark
