Cleanup: Greenwood

Departments:  Seattle Parks and Recreation, Department of Neighborhoods, Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle City Light, Seattle Public Utilities Community Services Division

Mayor Nickels lead more than 40 neighborhood volunteers along with the services of Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle City Light, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, Department of Correction work crews and SPU Community Services Division to clean up Greenwood, Saturday, January 22nd. Mayor Nickels and Department of Neighborhoods Director planted bulbs at Greenwood Park.

Volunteers included: Loretta Vosk and volunteers from the Friends of Greenwood Park: Derek Smith, Director and youth volunteers from the Greenwood Boys and Girls Club; Volunteers from the Greenwood-Phinney community; Michelle Pletschett, Manager of the Towers on Greenwood Apartments, and other neighborhood volunteers from the apartment building; David Rankin, residential account manager, Qwest and Seattle Works.

Mayor Nickels and Department of Neighborhoods Director planted bulbs at Greenwood Park. Refreshments were provided by Qwest. Digital photographs were taken. There was Seattle Channel coverage.

Cleanup Activities:

• 1 sign replaced, 18 cleaned
• 24 curb miles swept
• Gravel patched 10 blocks of shoulder
• Weeded the south side of North 87th Street from Fremont to Dayton
• replaced 11 Ottoluken laurels and mulched the entire block with 4 yds of wood chips
• 28 street lights were repaired
• cleaned out the summer annuals from the Rainbow Sign, planted about 100 spring flowering bulbs in the sign bed and around the kiosk
• groomed and weeded the 1,000 square foot flower bed
• weeded about 2,000 square feet of landscape beds at the northeast corner of the park
• pickup about 5 bags of litter throughout the Park
• painted out 257 graffiti tags
