Report on Clean Seattle Initiative
Cleanup: Downtown
Date of Cleanup: December 10, 2005
Departments: Seattle Department of Transportation, Parks and Recreation,
Seattle Department of Neighborhoods,
Department of Correction work crews
and Seattle Public Utilities Community Services
Division.
Mayor Greg Nickels led more than 30 participants
in the greening and cleaning of Downtown and the Pike/Pine business
corridor. The kick off event was held at Westlake Center Park at Fourth
Avenue & Pine. The
event was hosted by DON Downtown Coordinator Christa Dumpys.
Kate Joncas of the Downtown Seattle Association
and Metropolitan Improvement District (DSA/MID) introduced the mayor
to the crowd of volunteers, which included business owners, property
owners and store managers. Carol Binder of the Pike Place Market also
addressed the participants. Doug Patterson, Manager of Macy’s accepted recognition on behalf Macy’s
for their ongoing efforts in keeping downtown clean and vibrant.
Volunteer activities included litter pickup and sidewalk
sweeping.
Cleanup Activities:
- Repaired 45 streetlights
- Hosed off stage area in Westlake Center
- Collected
