Cleanup: Cottage Grove
Date of Cleanup: June 17, 2006
Departments: Seattle Department of Transportation, Parks and Recreation,
Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, Fire Station 28, Seattle City Light,
Department of Correction work crews
and Seattle Public Utilities Community Services
Division. Acting Department of Neighborhoods Director Bernie Matsuno also attended.
On Saturday, June 17, 2006, Mayor Greg Nickels lead more than
fifty (50) volunteers as they cleaned Greg Davis Park and the surrounding
Cottage Grove community. Organized by the Department of Neighborhoods’ Coordinator
Ron Angeles, participants from the West Seattle Community Safety Partnership,
34th District Democrats, Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association,
Delridge Neighborhoods District Council, Cottage Grove Neighborhood Council,
Southwest Youth and Family Services – Samoan Cricket Club, Longfellow
Creek Watershed Council, Cleveland High School, Delridge Community Center
and Delridge Library weeded, spread gravel, spread mulch, swept, and picked
up litter.
Cottage Grove, a moderate to low-income neighborhood located
between SW Genesee and SW Juneau and 2-3 blocks towards the east and west
of Delridge Way SW, geographically situated in the middle of the Delridge
Neighborhood Plan. Anthony Harris took digital photographs.
Cleanup Activities:
- 87 street signs repaired.
- Swept 4 loads of debris ( 4,800lbs ).
- Mowed 13 swath miles.
- 3 tons of asphalt were used to repair 10 potholes
and install 3 asphalt shims.
- 8 stairway locations were cut back and
cleaned.
- 7 pathways were cut back.
- Collected 150 lbs. of litter.
- Department of Corrections crew removed 900 lbs of Ivy.
