More than 25 Neighborhood volunteers, along with the services of Seattle Department
of Transportation, Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seattle City Light, Seattle
Department of Neighborhoods and SPU Community Services Division cleaned up
Wallingford Saturday, July 28th.
The "Clean Seattle" team partnered with the Wallingford Community Council and volunteers from King County's Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention in litter pick-ups, street cleaning, streetlight repairs, graffiti paint-outs, and weeding.
The boundaries of the Wallingford clean up were:
- North: N 34th/Pacific Ave.
- South: Lake Union (excluding Gasworks)
- West: Stone Way
- East: I-5
SPU Communications Director J. Paul Blake spoke on behalf of Mayor Nickels acknowledging community efforts in Wallingford and "Clean Seattle's" work throughout the city. Blake and volunteers picked up litter in Gas Works Park.
Another group of community volunteers involved in the Open Space Committee with South Wallingford Planning weeded traffic median at Triangle at N. 34h and Pacific Ave. N.
- Replaced 12 damaged, weathered or missing traffic signs
- Applied three tons of asphalt
- Repaved One crosswalk (eight tons asphalt)
- Swept 15 miles of curb
- Graffiti removed at six locations
- Mowed six swath miles
- Removed 12 tones of shrubbery
- Collected 2,760 lbs. of illegally dumped material
