Report on Clean Seattle Initiative

Cleanup:  Queen Anne

Date of Cleanup:  September 20, 2003

Departments:  Seattle Parks and Recreation, Department of Neighborhoods, Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle City Light, Seattle Public Utilities

On September 20, more than 70 residents, business owners, and other community volunteers joined forces to clean up the Uptown business district and Kinnear Park. Members of the Church of Scientology worked with students from Seattle University and Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation staff to weed and spruce up Kinnear Park. Meanwhile, neighborhood residents and business owners picked up litter, stenciled stormdrains to deter dumping, and weeded along sidewalks of the Uptown business district. The volunteers succeeded in removing almost 20 bags of litter and weeds from the business district.

Traffic Signs and Markings crews have started repainting the crosswalks requested by the community. They will continue to work in the area to try to complete the work before the fall rains begin.

Cleanup Activities:

  • Replaced six traffic signs

  • Removed graffiti from two traffic control boxes

  • Patched 68 potholes using three tons of asphalt

  • Installed 110 linear feet of Sidewalk shims using a half-ton of asphalt

  • Swept 14 curb miles of street
