Report on Clean Seattle Initiative

Cleanup:  Georgetown

Date of Cleanup:  June 12, 2004

Departments:  Seattle Parks and Recreation, Department of Neighborhoods, Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle City Light, Seattle Public Utilities Community Services Division

Approximately 30 volunteers swept, pickup trash, and planted flora in Seattle 's Georgetown Community on Saturday, June 12. Mayor Nickels led the charge with the Georgetown Community Council and the Georgetown Business Council to give Oxbow Park and the surrounding neighborhood a good cleaning.

Cleanup Activities:

  • Graded 3 shoulder blocks on the west side of 8th Avenue S south of S Myrtle St.


  • We also cleaned/exposed the sidewalk behind the shoulder and then flushed the roadway


  • Installed sidewalk shims between Myrtle and the railroad tracks using 9 tons of material


  • Replaced 10 damaged traffic signs


  • Cleaned graffiti from 8 traffic signs


  • Painted two curbs


  • Cleaned two traffic control boxes


  • 60 Streetlights repaired


  • 1.7 miles of roadway cleaned


  • 15 bags of debris removed; provided 40+ worker hours to uncover/expose the city sidewalk on 8th Ave. S. from S. Myrtle to end of street
