South Delridge Area Cleanup
Cleanup: South Delridge Cleanup
Date of Cleanup: May 17th (city crews) and May 18th (volunteers)
Target Area: Delridge to Westcrest Park, between Henderson and Roxbury
Departments: Parks, DON, Seattle Transportation, City Light, Seattle
Public Utilities, DCLU, Arts Commission, Department of Corrections, SPD Crime Prevention
Cleanup Activities:
- Swept and collected 12 cubic yards of debris from 18 curb miles of local streets.
- Collected 83 bags of litter and removed 1,245 pounds of litter and trash from 9.6 miles of streets
- Cleaned 13 illegal dumps, removing 5,960 pounds of debris.
- Recycled 1,120 pounds of metals and other recycleable materials picked up from city streets.
- Removed 181 graffiti tags from city lights, poles, signal control boxes and signs (Rangers and Seattle Transportation crews)
- Removed 8 tons of foreign material and added 16 tons of asphalt grindings to smooth and level the alley at Henderson and Barton.
- Placed two 4'x4' shims on low concrete panels at 15th SW and SW Cambridge.
- Used 2.5 tons of asphalt to install a tip off on shoulder of local streets (2'x 100')
- Placed 24 yards of bark at the triangle of 18th SW and SW Barton for use by Saturday's volunteers.
- Repaired or replaced 35 street lights in the surrounding neighborhood
- Replaced 3 damaged traffic control signs and repaired 3 street name signs
- Removed 2 illegally posted signs from city property.
- Painted out a "no stop zone."
- Cleared out hundreds of pounds of Scotch Broom and removed volunteer Big Leaf
- Maples and blackberries growing in the Madrona trees at the entry to Westcrest Park
- Painted the Westcrest Park main gate, repaired lights and bench at overlook at reservoir.
- Hydro seeded 500 square foot section of an unofficial road that is being turned back into turf area in the Madronas grove.
- Repaired the turf in the "Meadow" area (1 acre) that will be dedicated for family picnicking and that will include a play structure for kids.
- Removed old posts and installed removable bollards at the Southeast corner of the main parking lot to improve access to the Meadow/Family area of Westcrest Park.
- Cleaned the look out above the Westcrest reservoir
- Inspectors assessed overflow dumpsters in alley on 17th and Henderson to determine whether additional service was warranted.
Miscellaneous
- Removed 8 illegal signs from city power poles.
- Removed 3 pairs of tennis shoes from power wires.
- Inspectors conducted 7 initial inspections of Land Use Code violations with warnings given to each of the violators. Followup will be provided by inspectors when compliance date comes up.
Volunteer Activity
- 28 volunteers came together to paint out graffiti on private property, spread bark in Triangle Park, rounded up shopping carts, and picked up litter.
- 10 volunteers from the Adopt-A-Street group, Highland Park Action Committee, picked up litter along 16th Ave. SW and 8th Ave. SW from Holden St. to Roxbury Street.
