Mayor Greg Nickels Cleans Up South Delridge Park:
Participates in the Fourth of Many Neighborhood Cleanup Events
May 18th, 2002 - Surrounded by community volunteers, Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels today spread beauty bark and generally "spiffed up" South Delridge Triangle Park in West Seattle as part of the Mayor's Clean Seattle initiative.
Clean Seattle emphasizes cooperative cleanup and beautification of the city through community work parties that involve city crews, neighborhood businesses and community members.
"Cleanups like this will make Seattle a prettier, more comfortable place to live. The more we work together, the better the city and the people of Seattle will know each other. Collaborating on a mutual goal helps us learn to be better urban stewards and strengthens the fabric of our neighborhoods," Nickels said.
The park is the centerpoint in the effort of a coalition of residents, neighborhood groups, religious organizations, and businesses to improve the South Delridge neighborhood. Volunteers worked hard to pick up litter, sweep streets, spread bark in planting areas, and remove graffiti.
Partners in Clean Seattle are Seattle Arts Commission, Seattle City Light, Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seattle Police Department, Seattle Public Utilities, Seattle Transportation, Department of Design, Construction and Land Use and the Department of Neighborhoods.
