Report on Clean Seattle Initiative
84th Clean & Green Seattle - Central Area
On Saturday, June 7, 2008, Mayor Greg Nickels led more than sixty (60) volunteers and City workers as they cleaned E. Union Street from 19th through 26th streets. Participants included Squire Park Community, Miller Park Community Council, Colman Neighborhood Association, Central Area Neighborhood District Council Members, Local Block Watch, Neighbor Works (CADA), Mt Calvary Christian Center/Bridge Community Development Corp, Lutheran Good Shepherd Church, Mt. Zion Church, Garfield School, T. T. Minor School, Franklin High School, Rotary Boys and Girls Club, Meredith Mathews East Madison YMCA, City Year, and business owners. Volunteers removed invasive plants, painted out graffiti and picked up litter. More than 1,000 pounds of litter and debris were removed.
A Seattle Works team comprised of City worker volunteers, Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle Parks and Recreation, the Department of Corrections, King County DAJD and Seattle Public Utilities also assisted in the effort. Anthony Harris took digital photographs.
