Mayor Nickels' Letter to City Employees
Back to First 100 Days Accomplishments Home Page
Dear City Employees,
I want to express a heartfelt thanks to you for your support during my first 100 days as Mayor. As many of you know, this is a homecoming for me, and it's gratifying to renew the old acquaintances from my years on the City Council staff and to forge new ones.
Change is hard, and I've proposed a lot of it in a short time. You've weathered it with a can-do attitude. I've been impressed with the way you've stepped up to every challenge I've presented. To all of you in Strategic Planning, Transportation, Public Utilities, Design, Construction and Land Use, Neighborhoods, and the Arts Commission, new department leadership inherently changes the way you do your jobs. Thank you for your flexibility and your openness to innovation.
In this short time, you've shown me you work for the City because you believe in public service and you believe working for our citizens is a dignified and honorable calling. We're in it because we want to make a difference in people's lives.
I love this city as much as you do. I truly believe that with strong leadership, we can work with the people of Seattle to do just about anything. In my first 100 days I've tried to show how small steps, taken together, make a big difference in the public's confidence in us.
I hope you'll take a few minutes to visit the web site at cityofseattle.net/mayor to see the list of what we've accomplished in a very short time.
Again, thank you for all your support during my first days in office. I look forward to working with you to keep up the pace!
Sincerely,

Greg Nickels
