VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR SANKOFA THEATRE Sankofa Theatre – A Maafa Experience is a theatrical collage of drama, dance, music, and poetry exploring the Middle Passage. University of Washington Scott and Dorothy Bullitt Professor of American History, Quintard Taylor, describes Sankofa Theatre as, “a vivid, vibrant introduction to the complex history of persons of African descent on both sides of the Atlantic. Sankofa Theatre succeeds wonderfully as both a memorial to the centuries-long tragedy of African enslavement and a celebration of those who maintained their humanity and dignity in the face of that singular tragedy Inspired by the Maafa Suite, Sankofa Theatre is an original production directed by Justin Emeka and is a celebration of resilience of African people in America. It is a collaboration of over 70 performers from West Africa, South Africa, New York and Seattle, using their work to tell a story aimed at reclaiming the past in order to move forward. Volunteers are needed to support this in-depth presentation in the following areas: Usher, Ticket Taker, Costumes (i.e., mending, alterations, ironing), Quick Change, Make-up, Backstage Crew, Medic/Health Care, Prayer/Healing Ministry and Food Services.
