| How do I get there? | ||
DIABLO LAKE BOAT TOUR: PROGRAM BEGINS AT NORTH CASCADES INSTITUTE'S ENVIRONMENTAL LEARNING CENTER ON DIABLO DAM ROAD From Interstate 5 take exit 232, the Cook Road Sedro-Woolley exit. Head east through the first stoplight close to the exit off ramp. Continue east on Cook Road for 4.5 miles until you reach a second stoplight and turn left onto the North Cascades Highway 20. Continue east on the North Cascades Highway for approximately 40 miles. You will travel through the towns of Sedro-Woolley, Marblemount and Newhalem. Allow a minimum of 90 minutes to travel from Interstate 5 to Diablo Dam Road. You can also access the North Cascades Highway from east to west via Winthrop, Washington. Diablo Dam is approximately 70 miles west of Winthrop. Allow one hour and 30 minutes to travel west from Winthrop to Diablo Dam. The North Cascades Institute's Environmental Learning Center is located at milepost 127.5 on the North Cascades Highway (Highway 20). ALL: Once on Diablo Dam Rd, please drive carefully, as this road is very narrow and winding down to and across the dam. The speed limit on the dam is 10 mph. Immediately past the dam, take a right and proceed approximately 0.6 miles to the end of the road. The Learning Center parking lot will be clearly marked on your right. From here, it is an 800' walk to the Dining Hall along a gravel path. Should you need assistance to get from your car to the dining hall, please notify the Skagit Tour Information Center at least 2 weeks prior to your trip, so that we are prepared to assist you. Search for Diablo, WA. NORTH CASCADES EXPEDITIONS: PROGRAM BEGINS AT SKAGIT INFORMATION CENTER IN NEWHALEM From Interstate 5 take exit 232, the Cook Road Sedro-Woolley exit. | What if my plans change after I pay for my ticket(s)? | ||
| Subject to space availability, we will gladly reschedule your tour to another date, with a 48-hour notice. As with other entertainment events, all tickets are non-refundable. Tours operate as scheduled, rain or shine. | ||
| Can I buy food? | ||
| Stop by the Skagit General Store for snacks, picnic items or to stock up for camping. Picnic facilities and restroom are conveniently located in Newhalem. | ||
| Where can I spend the night? | ||

There are many lodging opportunities en route to the Skagit Power Project or nearby. They range from rustic to luxurious and can be found on both the western and eastern approaches to the North Cascades on or near Highway 20.

| What are my meal options? | ||

Order a Skagit Picnic lunch to enjoy before or after your tour, $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children. Take out lunch includes deli sandwich (choice of ham, turkey or vegetarian bagel), chilled beverage, homemade cookie, fruit, and cloth bandanna napkin. Children's lunch includes peanut butter and jelly sandwich, apple sauce, homemade cookie, chilled beverage and Skagit Train toy whistle. The Skagit Picnic lunch is available on a pre-order basis be sure to request your sandwich preference at the time of your reservation. |

| How much walking will I have to do? | ||
| Both tours require some walking and climbing of stairs, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. | ||
| How should I dress? | ||
| Dress for comfort and adaptability. Mountain weather is unpredictable and tours go rain or shine, so it's a good idea to dress in layers which can be worn or shed as conditions change. Don't forget to bring a broad-brimmed hat and dark glasses for sunny days. | ||
| A person in my party is in a wheelchair. Can she still take the tour? | ||
| We are able to accommodate a limited number of wheelchairs on tours. Please provide your own attendants. | ||

Due to heightened security, Seattle City Light has restricted access to certain areas of the Skagit River Hydroelectric Project. There is no public access to Ross and Diablo Powerhouses and the Incline Railway. Other seasonal attractions, including the Gorge Powerhouse Visitors' Gallery, are open May through September. Ladder Creek Falls, the Trail of the Cedars and the Gorge Dam Overlook Trail remain open year-round for public use. |
