Product Update

Seattle City Light has learned from the Washington State University Extension Energy Program that some panels manufactured by Silicon Energy in the State of Washington show signs of delamination, equipment failure and cracking. In some examples, there has been partial melting or burning of the solar panel at the location of the failure.

While many of you have already spoken with your solar installer concerning this issue, Seattle City Light wanted to make sure all customers with this type of solar panel are aware of the issue. City Light is not involved in the selection, installation or maintenance of customer solar panels. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to talk to your solar installer about whether there are safety implications in continued use of your Silicon Energy solar panels. Your installer may be able to inspect the modules and recommend a course of action. Below is a helpful FAQ document and sample images of the issue.
