There are numerous ways, large and small to conserve electricity. City Light is raising awareness about energy use, while having some fun at the same time, by putting a
spin on your most creative, tastiest recipe. Out Cookin' with Kilowatts contest challenges you to create or use a recipe that you would typically bake in an oven or
on a stovetop, and instead use an electric cooking method that uses less electricity
than an oven or stovetop. For instance, as you see in the chart below, a microwave
uses less energy than the oven.

And of course, these recipes have the added benefit of keeping the kitchen cooler this summer.

Everyone’s a Winner!
The best thing about Cookin’ with Kilowatts is that everyone is a winner! All customers who submit a recipe using a more-energy-efficient method of cooking will receive a
free City Light pot holder and chef’s hat. Limit one pot holder and chef’s hat per
household. WHILE SUPPLIES LAST!

Creativity and fun will be rewarded!
Each submission will be based on creativity, energy saved and presentation. Bonus points will be awarded to participants who take a photo with the chef’s hat on and submit it to SCL_Recipes@seattle.gov.

Contest guideliines
  • There is no entry fee.
  • Entrants grant City Light full rights to reproduce, re-use, and distribute the recipes and winning recipes without limitation or compensation. By submission
    of recipe, entrant agrees to these conditions.
  • Entries must be submitted between July 1, 2017 - September 20, 2017.
  • Finalists will be notified by email or phone call.
