City Light Rates Adopted for 2015-2016

On October 6, the City Council adopted new rates for 2015 and 2016. The new rates align with City Light's 2014 Six-year Strategic Plan Update, which calls for rate increases of 4.2 percent in 2015 and 4.9 percent in 2016. See 2015-2016 Rate Review for more information.

City Light Rate Proposal for 2015-2016

On June 30, 2014 the Seattle City Council adopted City Light's 2015-2020 Strategic Plan Update, which calls for a six-year rate trajectory averaging 4.4 percent, and includes average rate increases of 4.2 percent in 2015 and 4.9 percent in 2016.

City Light Rate Changes Coming Jan. 1, 2014

The rate increase implemented on Jan. 1, 2014 will incorporate an average system rate increase of 5.6 percent adopted on Sept. 17, 2012 by the City Council and a 1.2 percent automatic BPA pass-through effective Oct. 1, 2013.

In addition, Burien customers will see a new charge for the First Avenue South Undergrounding Phase 2 Project, which will amount to $0.0013/kWh for all customer classes except for Utility Discount Program participants, who will be charged $0.0005/kWh.

Oct. 1, 2013: Rates increasing due to BPA Pass-through

On July 24, 2013 the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) finalized new energy and transmission rates for fiscal years 2014 and 2015. Effective Oct. 1, 2013, City Light increased energy charges for all customer classes by $0.0009/kWh except for Utility Discount Program participants, who received a $0.0004/kWh increase.

The average rate increase across all customer classes due to this BPA pass-through is 1.2 percent.
