Nickels and Pathfinder Students Demonstrate use of Solar Power
Mayor Greg Nickels joined Seattle School Superintendent Joseph Olshefske, City Councilmember Heidi Wills and City Light Superintendent Gary Zarker to launch Seattle’s Green Power Program on Wednesday, January 30. This voluntary program allows customers to choose to pay an additional amount on their City Light bills to purchase renewable resources for the city’s power supply and to place solar installations on public buildings.
The event at Pathfinder School in West Seattle included an interactive demonstration of how solar power is used on a cold, rainy day. Students from the school got an introduction to the science of how solar power is gathered and stored. They then joined the Mayor in using various solar powered appliances, including a TV, VCR, a blender and a table saw.
