Seven artists created artworks for elevator lobbies
SEATTLE - Seattle City Light commissioned seven artists to create original artworks for seven of its elevator lobbies. Take a tour and meet the artists from 2 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 16. A brief program with light refreshments will begin at 2 p.m. on the 32nd floor of the Seattle Municipal Tower, 700 Fifth Ave. Visit the elevator lobbies from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
The recently renovated lobbies feature light sculptures by Claude Zervas; metal wall structures by Victoria Haven; a video installation by Kerry Skarbakka; paintings by Margie Livingston; an installation of porcelain light bulbs by Yuki Nakamura; enameled aluminum panels by Emily Ginsburg; and a series of framed artworks made of wool blankets, thread and satin by Marie Watt.
The portable artworks enhance the workplace of City Light employees and draw attention to the utility’s mission to provide low-cost, reliable and environmentally responsible electricity to customers. The artworks were commissioned with Seattle City Light 1% for Art funds administered by the Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs. For more information, call (206) 684-7171.
The Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs promotes the value of arts and culture in and of communities throughout Seattle. The 16-member Seattle Arts Commission, citizen volunteers appointed by the mayor and City Council, supports the city agency.
