PRSA NAMES HARTMAN PUBLIC RELATIONS PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR
Organization Recognizes Her for Professionalism, Innovation
SEATTLE - Seattle City Light’s Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Suzanne Hartman, was named the Public Relations Professional of the Year by the Puget Sound Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). The award came at the PRSA 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner November 29, 2007.
In announcing the award, PRSA credited Hartman with demonstrating professionalism, innovation and involvement in the field of public relations throughout the past year and for her communication leadership and mentoring for many years.
One example of her commitment and dedication to Seattle City Light customers was keeping them well informed during the 2006 windstorm. Hartman made extraordinary efforts in working with the media at all hours of the day and night during the Hanukah eve storm of 2006.
Also, under her leadership, City Light was nationally recognized for the format, design and narrative content of the utility’s 2006 Annual Report and for a joint regional marketing campaign supporting green power.
"Since Suzanne arrived at the utility in the summer of 2006, she has exemplified excellence in communications with the public we serve and in her relationship with the news media," Superintendent Jorge Carrasco said. "We are all very proud of Suzanne."
Hartman has more than 20 years of communications experience. Before joining Seattle City Light, she was an executive with public relations agencies, including 10 years as president of her own agency . She is widely known for her work on Seattle's Recycling and Waste Management programs as well as a wide-variety of environmental campaigns. Hartman has served on a number of PRSA committees and leadership positions and frequently leads study groups for young PR professionals seeking accreditation.
