Seattle City Light Names New Power Supply & Environmental
Affairs Officer
Long time energy expert joins power management team
SEATTLE - Superintendent Jorge Carrasco today announced that Steven D. Kern as Seattle City Light’s Power Supply & Environmental Affairs Officer. Kern joins City Light on November 13.
“Steve is no stranger to Seattle City Light,” said Carrasco in making the appointment. “He has worked with us as a consultant on power marketing and also has served as an interim Power Supply and Environmental Affairs Officer. We are very fortunate to have someone of his caliber to provide leadership and continuity to our power management group.”
Kern has more than 25 years of experience in power supply matters. He began his career at Snohomish County PUD as a Resource Planner and Power Scheduler. He also has worked for Puget Sound Energy and Avista Corporation in Eastern Washington on both the gas and electric energy parts of their business. His management, power marketing and power supply experience also includes positions with Duke Energy, Arizona Public Services and PNGC Power.
Since 2005, Kern has been a principal in Lands Energy Consulting, a firm that provides energy trading, power operations, supply acquisition and energy supply risk management advisory services to large energy users. He will relocate from Vancouver, Washington, to Seattle.
Kern has a Bachelor of Science in geological sciences from the University of Washington; and graduate work in Business from Seattle University.
