Seattle City Light Celebrates Public Power Week
Keeping the lights on in Seattle for more than a century
SEATTLE - Turning on a light in Seattle is the result of decades of public investment in power production facilities and the distribution network that delivers power to the homes and businesses in Seattle City Light’s service territory. Public Power Week also recognizes the efforts of the women and men at Seattle City Light who work 365 days a year, 24/7 to keep the lights on for our customers.
Publicly owned, Seattle City Light operates as a municipal utility providing low-cost, environmentally sensitive electricity to about 380,000 customers. To recognize the importance and value of customer-owned public electric utilities, Seattle City Light is celebrating Public Power Week, which runs through Oct. 13.
Several activities are planned:
- This afternoon, the Mayor and City Council will issue a proclamation recognizing Public Power Week. The event starts at 2:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 600 4th Ave., 2nd Floor.
- Wednesday, Seattle City Light Superintendent Jorge Carrasco is featured on World Business Review, hosted by Ret. Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf. Carrasco talks about the utility’s Green Up and conservation programs. The show airs on BRAVO at 7:00 a.m. and CNBC at 11:30 p.m.
- City Light will honor its employees at the Light, Power and Pride Annual Awards ceremony on Friday..
- Throughout the week, customers who pay their bills at any of the utility’s bill payment centers will receive at no charge, an Energy Star® compact fluorescent light bulb.
- End -
Seattle City Light is a publicly owned utility dedicated to exceeding our customers' expectations in producing and delivering low cost, reliable power in an environmentally responsible and safe way. We are committed to delivering the best customer service experience of any utility in the nation.
