Lineworker Hospitalized With Minor Injuries After Powerline Accident
Service restored to Shoreline Area
Seattle - A Seattle City Light lineworker is being kept at the hospital overnight for observation after an accident early this afternoon that knocked out power to part of Shoreline about 1 p.m.
Two lineworkers were installing a support wire on an insulator when the other end of the support wire apparently caused a short circuit and knocked the power line down. One of the workers was caught inside the resulting flash. Both men were taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
The 40-year-old worker was being kept overnight for observation. He was in stable condition with minor facial burns. The other worker, who is in his early 30s, was treated and released.
An electrical feeder line dislocated from its utility pole during regular maintenance work, leaving about 5,500 customers without power. Service was restored to most customers within an hour. The final 440 customers had their electricity back about 4:15 p.m.
The general boundaries of the original outage were NE 205th Street on the north, NE 162nd Street on the south, 49th Avenue NE on the east and Linden Avenue N on the west. Not all customers in that area were affected.
