Lake City Way To Be Affected By One-Hour Planned Outage
Underground Cable Repairs to Start About 2 p.m.

SEATTLE - About 180 customers on Lake City Way between 120th and 130th Streets will be without power for about an hour today so a faulty underground power cable serving the area can be replaced.

Seattle City Light recognizes the inconvenience caused by any outage, but asks for understanding as workers replace the faulty cable to complete the repair.

Repair crews will start the work about 2 p.m. and should be finished by 3 p.m.

The problem started about 12:45 a.m. when about 60 customers lost power and repair crews discovered the bad cable.

Underground power cables can become brittle over time and fail. Heat and other environmental factors can hasten that process. When they do fail, the repair is to replace the entire cable, which can be a lengthy process.

In many cases, customers can be restored to power by rerouting electricity around the area being repaired. That is the case in Lake City. All but two or three customers were returned to power Thursday morning, but the afternoon planned outage is needed to complete the repairs on the faulty cable.
