City Light Wastewater Plant Recognized For Outstanding Service
Newhalem Plant had perfect water quality record for 2006
SEATTLE - Seattle City Light’s Newhalem wastewater treatment plant won an “Outstanding Wastewater Treatment Plant” award from the state Department of Ecology for 2006.
The award is given to wastewater treatment plants that maintain full compliance with state water rules, including effluent limits, monitoring, reporting, spill prevention planning, and pretreatment.
“Ecology appreciated the extraordinary level of effort (City Light) demonstrated throughout 2006,” Ecology’s water program manager, David C. Peeler, said. “The Newhalem Wastewater Treatment Plant is run by dedicated operators whose efforts complement one another to ensure outstanding compliance and the protection of our state’s water quality.”
Ecology reviews 300 plants across the state. The Newhalem plant was one of 55 facilities to receive the recognition.
This is the second year in a row that the Newhalem plant has earned the award and the eighth time in the 11 years since Ecology started the award in 1995.
Lynn Best, City Light’s director of environmental affairs, credited the plant’s employees for continuing the facility’s record of excellence.
Qualifying for this award “requires constant vigilance to avoid any violations,” Best said. “It only takes one little violation to keep you from receiving the award.”
