Power Restored To Most Of First Hill
SEATTLE - Repair crews from Seattle City Light restored power within 90 minutes for most of the 3,500 customers affected by an outage today in the First Hill neighborhood.
The outage was caused by a truck that crashed into a utility pole near the intersection of Madison Street and 24th Avenue about 1 p.m. The truck knocked down the pole, two transformers and the wires. The general boundaries of the outage were Boyer Avenue on the north, Union Street on the south, 29th Avenue on the east and Summit Avenue on the West.
After containing oil that was leaking from one of the transformers to prevent it from going into a storm drain, repair crews cut the power lines from the broken pole to isolate the damage. That allowed the remaining lines in the area to be re-energized.
About five customers remained without power after the initial restoration. Full restoration was expected to take until about 7 p.m. while crews replaced the broken pole, transformers and wires.
