Seattle City Light Superintendent Names Chief of Staff

SEATTLE-Seattle City Light Superintendent Jorge Carrasco announced today that Sung Yang has been appointed chief of staff for the utility. The chief of staff oversees all facets of the superintendents office, including intergovernmental relations, communications and external affairs. He will also serve as a member of City Lights executive team.

"I am delighted to welcome Sung Yang to City Light, Carrasco said. He brings a unique blend of public policy, government relations, and executive experience that will serve our utility's needs well. City Light interacts with many community, industry and government policy leaders in its effort to provide clean, reliable, affordable energy. Sung will be instrumental in helping us manage these critical relationships effectively."

Sung Yang currently serves as Mayor Greg Nickels primary liaison with the Seattle City Council and is a member of the mayors senior staff. As director of council relations and senior policy advisor, he has overall responsibility for the mayors legislation. In addition, Yang manages and directs the mayors land use and economic development initiatives. Previously, he was the deputy director of the Washington State Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development, where he managed the state's housing, local government assistance and community services programs. Yang was also recently an adjunct professor at Seattle University, teaching public policy in its graduate program for public administration.

Yang previously worked in Seattle government as a legislative assistant to Councilmember Martha Choe. His private sector experience is varied, including positions as a vice president of marketing in a retail start-up and as an attorney for Bogle & Gates PLLC. He has earned bachelors and law degrees from the University of Washington and served on the boards of numerous local community organizations.

Yang will start at the utility on March 20, 2006.
