City Light to Move Streetlights for I-5 Project
SEATTLE- Seattle City Light will relocate some streetlights in Capitol Hill's Roanoke neighborhood to accommodate construction of a noise wall along Interstate 5.
City Light plans to begin installing temporary poles in late February on the west side of Boylston Avenue East between East Lynn and East Roanoke streets. Crews will remove the streetlights on the east side of Boylston and re-install about half of them on the west side. The work will be phased, so there should be no time when the area is completely without streetlights.
City Light expects installation of the temporary lights to be completed by the end of February.
The streetlights are being moved so that the Washington State Department of Transportation can build a noise wall that will substantially reduce I-5-generated noise in the surrounding communities. The estimated completion date for the noise wall project is late summer of this year, according to WSDOT. When the noise wall is in place, City Light will install new permanent streetlights with underground wiring along the west side of Boylston.
