City Light To Conduct Public Workshop on Electricity Rates
SEATTLE- The City of Seattle has begun a review of electricity rates, and City Light has scheduled a public workshop to discuss key issues in setting rates. The workshop will also cover the rate review schedule and include time for questions and comments from participants.
The workshop is scheduled for: Tuesday, Feb. 15, 4-6:30 p.m., in the Bertha Knight Landes Room, first floor of City Hall, 600 Fourth Avenue in downtown Seattle.
Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels has until the end of June to propose any changes to the current City Light rates, based on revised revenue requirements, cost allocations to customer classes, and rate design. The rate review will also include an important Seattle City Council decision on utility financial policies.
The mayor has directed City Light to mount an aggressive public involvement program that provides customers with the opportunity to comment, make suggestions, ask questions and provide additional materials themselves that the mayor and City Light should consider.
The City Council will hold its own set of hearings on rates after it receives the Mayor's proposal. In addition, Council currently plans a decision toward the end of March on City Light financial policies.
City Light customers can keep current with the evolving rate review process through the City Light Rate Review Web site, www.seattle.gov/light/News/Issues/RateProc/. The site also contains information about how to contact City staff involved in the rate review.
