Michael Jones Brings Experience in Energy, Management

SEATTLE - Seattle City Light has hired Michael Jones as the utility's new power supply and environmental affairs officer, General Manager and CEO Jorge Carrasco Announced today.

"Michael's background and experience in leadership roles and in the energy industry will be an asset to the Executive Team at Seattle City Light," Carrasco said. "He will provide leadership and strategic direction to support the utility's continued effort to build a safer, high performance organization, while continuing to provide efficient, reliable and environmentally responsible generation of hydroelectric power."

Jones comes to Seattle City Light from Jacksonville, Fla., where he most recently owned his own business, CEO Focus, which provided executive coaching, management consulting, and technical consulting services to non-profit and energy industry organizations. Prior to that, Michael spent 12 years with The Energy Authority in both Jacksonville and Bellevue, Wa. He began his tenure there performing risk analysis for municipal utilities and progressed through the organization in various roles in risk management, power management, and enterprise operations. Michael began his career as an Officer with the U.S. Navy stationed in Norfolk, Va.

Jones received his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio State University, and went on to complete his Master's in Business Administration at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.

Carrasco thanked Compliance Officer Jim Baggs for his work as interim power supply and environmental affairs officer since May 2012. Baggs and Jones will be working closely over the next few weeks to ensure a smooth transition, he said.

Seattle City Light is the 10th largest public electric utility in the United States. It has some of the lowest cost customer rates of any urban utility, providing reliable, renewable and environmentally responsible power to nearly 1 million Seattle area residents. City Light has been greenhouse gas neutral since 2005, the first electric utility in the nation to achieve that distinction.
