Will Hold Two Public Meetings to Talk About Upcoming Project and Potential Impacts

SEATTLE Seattle City Light is letting its customers in the South Beacon Hill and Tukwila area know about a project beginning this summer. Seattle City Light will start preliminary work on power lines just east of I-5 near exits 157 and 158.

The majority of the work will take place beginning in the spring of 2013, although there will be some work starting this year. Areas affected include South Beacon Hill and part of Tukwila on both the east and west sides of I-5 near City Lights Right-of-Way.

Specifically, the utility will begin work to replace the wooden H-Frame poles that carry transmission lines from the Creston-Nelson substation to the Duwamish substation. The poles are more than fifty years old. The utility is taking the opportunity to increase power capacity and up-grade distribution lines to meet the increasing demand in the southern part of the utilitys service territory. The work is designed to increase reliability for customers and to meet anticipated economic development needs in this fast-developing area.

Seattle City Light is the 10th largest public electric utility in the United States. It has some of the lowest cost customer rates of any urban utility, providing reliable, renewable and environmentally responsible power to nearly 1 million Seattle area residents. City Light has been greenhouse gas neutral since 2005, the first electric utility in the nation to achieve that distinction.
