Equipment Failures Responsible for Both Outages
SEATTLE – Seattle City Light crews restored power to all customers affected by power outages in the Roosevelt and First Hill neighborhoods by 2:30 p.m. today.
A blown elbow connector on an underground switch was responsible for the outage in Roosevelt. An underground cable failure was the cause of the outage in First Hill.
The Roosevelt outage started about 8:40 a.m. and initially affected about 3,900 homes and businesses. All but one of those customers was back in service by 10 a.m.
The First Hill outage started about 11:30 a.m. and initially affected about 4,800 homes and businesses.
Seattle City Light is the 10th largest public electric utility in the United States. It has some of the lowest cost customer rates of any urban utility, providing reliable, renewable and environmentally responsible power to nearly 1 million Seattle area residents. City Light has been greenhouse gas neutral since 2005, the first electric utility in the nation to achieve that distinction.
