Superintendent to Review Findings, Discuss Next Steps
SEATTLE – Seattle City Light Superintendent Jorge Carrasco on Wednesday will present to the Energy, Technology & Civil Rights Committee of the City Council the final report on recent testing of more than 37,000 streetlights and associated facilities. Carrasco also will discuss the utility’s plans for ongoing inspections, testing and maintenance.
Carrasco ordered the testing after a dog was electrocuted by an energized metal plate covering a streetlight vault on Queen Anne Avenue in November and reports of other potentially energized poles and groundcover plates.
City Light crews and contractors identified 56 instances of contact voltage measuring at least 30 volts, including the Queen Anne Avenue location.
Specific questions will be addressed at Thursday’s media briefing. The Council Committee meeting starts at 2 p.m. in Council Chambers with the media briefing to follow.
