Downed Wires Initially Cut Power to 3,800 Homes, Businesses

SEATTLE Seattle City Light repair crews restored service about 9 p.m. to the final 21 customers affected by an outage caused by a falling tree that took down power lines on W Lawton Avenue.

The outage started about 8:20 a.m. and initially affected about 3,800 homes and businesses. By 9:30 a.m. Seattle City Light crews had routed power around the damaged area, restoring service for most of the homes and businesses.

Full restoration of service was complicated by the damage caused by the falling tree. Crews had to remove the tree from the wires, hang new wires and replace a transformer.

The area originally affected by the outage stretched from Discovery Park in Magnolia along the ship canal through Interbay and along the west side of Lake Union.

Seattle City Light is the 10th largest public electric utility in the United States. It has some of the lowest cost customer rates of any urban utility, providing reliable, renewable and environmentally responsible power to nearly 1 million Seattle area residents. City Light has been greenhouse gas neutral since 2005, the first electric utility in the nation to achieve that distinction.
