More Than 3,000 Join Program Since November

SEATTLE Seattle City Light customers are showing their support for new sources of renewable energy by joining the utilitys Green Up program in rapidly growing numbers.

Since November, more than 3,000 people have signed up to buy credits for new renewable energy production. Thats a 35 percent enrollment increase.

The growth in Green Up participation is another example of how our customers consistently demonstrate their commitment for sustainable energy solutions, Superintendent Jorge Carrasco said. Their participation is helping to expand the market for clean, renewable power generation here in the Pacific Northwest.

Green Up participants support a variety of clean energy production options, including geothermal energy, landfill gas and wind power.

Residential customers can purchase Green Up renewable energy credits for as little as $3 a month. Commercial customers can purchase renewable energy credits by the kilowatt-hour. All purchases are certified by Green-e Energy, the nation's leading independent consumer protection program for the sale of renewable energy and greenhouse gas reductions.

Seattle City Light is the 10th largest public electric utility in the United States. It has some of the lowest cost customer rates of any urban utility, providing reliable, renewable and environmentally responsible power to nearly 1 million Seattle area residents. City Light has been greenhouse gas neutral since 2005, the first electric utility in the nation to achieve that distinction.
