SEATTLE — An outage that affected 9,300 customers in the Capitol Hill area has now been restored. The outage lasted about 1 ½ hours.
Originally, two feeder lines at City Light’s Capitol Hill East Pine substation failed, cutting power to 9,300 customers. Cause was equipment failure.
City Light is also experiencing scattered small outages throughout its service area, affecting about 300 customers. The cause is likely due to stress to the system due to excessive heat. Most customers should have power back on before midnight.
Seattle City Light is the ninth largest public electric utility in the United States. It has some of the lowest cost customer rates of any urban utility, providing reliable, renewable and environmentally responsible power to nearly 1 million Seattle area residents. City Light has been greenhouse gas neutral since 2005, the first electric utility in the nation to achieve that distinction.
