SEATTLE — Seattle City Light is responding quickly to an outage in Tukwila. Originally there were approximately 3,600 customers without electricity. Power has been restored to about 94 percent of the customers. Approximately 215 customers are still without electricity within these general boundaries: north, S. 96th St.; south, S. 160th St.; west, 24th Ave. S. and east, 56th Ave. S. If possible, the crew will reroute power to further reduce the number of customers impacted. The estimated restoral time is 11 a.m., December 18, 2009.
This outage was first reported at 9:23 p.m. on December 17, 2009. The cause of the outage is related to a failed switch. Four key customers were impacted by this outage, and have been contacted by City Light: Tukwila School District, Group Health, King County Transit and Washington State Patrol.
Seattle City Light is the ninth largest public electric utility in the United States. It has the lowest cost customer rates of any urban utility, providing reliable, renewable and environmentally responsible power to nearly 1 million Seattle area residents. City Light has been greenhouse gas neutral since 2005, the first electric utility in the nation to achieve that distinction.
