SEATTLE — Dispatchers and a repair crew returned power to about 3,300 customers minutes after an outage started about 5:45 p.m. today.
A failed underground cable was the cause of the outage in Ravenna, Wedgwood, Hawthorne Hills and Laurelhurst. Dispatchers and the repair crew routed power around the damaged area to restore service to the affected customers. Crews will now work on repairs to the failed cable.
The general boundaries of the outage were NE 35th Street on the South, NE 60th Street on the North, 9th Avenue NE on the West and 53rd Avenue NE on the East. Not all homes and businesses within those general boundaries were affected. Children’s Hospital was not affected by the outage.
Seattle City Light is the ninth largest public electric utility in the United States. It has the lowest cost customer rates of any urban utility, providing reliable, renewable and environmentally responsible power to nearly 1 million Seattle area residents. City Light has been greenhouse gas neutral since 2005, the first electric utility in the nation to achieve that distinction.
