Success on the Skagit

Salmon are responding to our efforts. Chum and pink stocks spawning below our Skagit River project are "extremely healthy, at or near the level they would be with no human intervention" (American Fisheries Society). Chinook stocks in this area are stable and the steelhead stock is healthy.

Bald eagles have benefited, too. The healthy chum runs are a reliable food source that supports the largest population of overwintering bald eagles in the contiguous United States.

To add to the health of the watershed as a whole, City Light bought more than 8,000 acres of prime wildlife habitat in the Skagit and Nooksack River basins.
