Seattle City Light wants you to make the wisest energy choice when you
buy a new appliance. We also want you to make the best use of the appliances you own already. For some appliances you can achieve the results you want while using much less energy if you make a well-judged purchase. For others a small change in the way you use your existing appliance can make a big change in the amount of energy it uses.
We can divide home appliances into three categories:
major appliances like refrigerators, clothes washers and dishwashers;
small appliances like radios, hair dryers and toasters and home electronics like computers and TV's.
The energy consumption of each appliance depends on its
power demand (look for the watt rating on the appliance) and the amount of time
you use the appliance. You can calculate the consumption
for any of your electric appliances with these two bits of information.
If you'd like to know what a typical appliance uses check the
cost list.
We hope you'll easily navigate through the information we've
posted to find the answers to all your questions. If you don't find the information
you're seeking here, have a look at the FAQ page.
