Seattle City Light's Neighborhood Power Project (NPP) began as a pilot project in the Fremont Neighborhood in 1995. In addition to helping customers save energy, NPP's goals were to:
- Strengthen its partnerships with other city departments and the neighborhoods; and
- Deliver resource conservation services more efficiently.
After Fremont, NPP worked in 13 other geographic neighborhoods. It partnered closely with neighborhood associations, Seattle Police Department's Block Watch captains and other community-based groups to offer a menu of resource conservation services based on the specific needs of the residential and business community.
Although the Neighborhood Power Project has ended, Seattle City Light offers the free installation of energy saving products like compact fluorescent light bulbs to apartment buildings, along with water-saving showerheads and aerators.
