City of Seattle employees give generously to hundreds of community-based organizations during
the year through the Seattle Shares program. Together, city employees donate more than $1
million annually and pledge nearly 15,000 volunteer hours. Supporting communities where
we live and work and donating to local, national and global organizations is part of
our culture of giving.
Stuff the Bus
City Light teamed up with Councilmember O’Brien’s office and our customers to help Communities in
Schools of Seattle in the annual Stuff the Bus campaign, which helps kids from low-income families
head back to school with needed school supplies.
City employees and the public donated more than a vanload of backpacks, pencils, markers, notebooks,
scissors, calculators and other school items from July 15 to August 16. All the materials were then
loaded into a bright yellow school bus.
Donations from Stuff the Bus help lessen the burden of high costs of school supplies for families
and teachers alike. City Light thanks those who contributed to Stuff the Bus to provide for a
bright and exciting school year for these kids.
